Fort Fairfield teen crashes vehicle on icy road
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A Fort Fairfield teenager escaped with a minor injury Dec. 22, 2015 after losing control of her vehicle on an icy road.
A 17-year-old girl, who was operating with an intermediate license, was driving on North Caribou Road to visit a relative before heading to school when she lost control of her 2002 Ford Explorer, Fort Fairfield Police Sgt. Shawn Newell said Tuesday afternoon.
Aroostook County received a small amount of freezing rain and snow the previous evening and into the morning, which made for slick road conditions in some areas.
Newell said the vehicle veered off the road, rolled over once and then came to rest in a small patch of trees.
The driver, who was not named because she is a minor and was not charged with any crime, walked away with just a small cut on her hand, according to the police department’s Facebook page.
Newell said a passerby helped her out of the vehicle.
“She was wearing her seatbelt and did not have any passengers,” he said.
Newell said the vehicle sustained extensive damage on its passenger side.
He chalked up the cause of the accident to an inexperienced driver driving too fast for road conditions.
