LYONS, Sheila B., 70, MASARDIS, January 1, 2016. A Remembrance Service will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, at the Ashland District School Auditorium. Arrangements are under the care of Lajoie Funeral Home, Ashland.
MASARDIS – Sheila B. Lyons, 70, surrounded by her family, passed peacefully Friday, January 1, 2016, following a brief yet heroic battle with cancer. She was born July 14, 1945, in Milo, ME, a daughter of the late Richard and Hope (Higgins) Boone Sr.
Sheila worked as an elementary school teacher at Ashland Elementary School for almost 25 years, until her retirement in 2004, and also a long-time chairperson of the Ashland School Board. She loved watching “her” children grow and learn and always maintained a prominent position within the community, with deep ties to the Ashland school. Sheila enjoyed painting and writing, and, a long-time member of the Aroostook Right to Read, she was a devoted storyteller whom was proud to speak with children and adults all over The County.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jon L. Lyons of Masardis; three daughters, Shauna Goulet and her husband, Tony of Masardis, Margaret Lewin and her husband, Herman of Ashland, and Kimberly Holmes and her husband, Preston III of Portage; three siblings, Adelbert Boone and his wife, Joeene, William Boone and his wife, Charlotte, and Clarice Call, all of Dover-Foxcroft; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Taylor, Stephanie, Cassidy, Haleigh, Morgan, Brady and Griffin; two great-grandchildren, Quinn and Aoife; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Sheila was predeceased by an infant daughter, Michelle Lea Lyons; and four siblings, Richard II and Roger Boone, Joan Hall Zikorus and Judith Alexa.
A Remembrance Service will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the Ashland District School Auditorium, Presque Isle Road, Ashland, with Pastor Bill Harris officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange Street, Ashland, or Thursday at 2 p.m. until the time of service at the Ashland District School Auditorium. Spring burial will be in Masardis Municipal Cemetery.
