Bone Builders slates open house Thursday
FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — RSVP and Cary Medical Center’s Healthy You program will hold a Bone Builders Open House event on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 from 9-11 a.m. at the Fields Lane Community Room in Fort Fairfield.
RSVP Bone Builders is an evidence-based exercise program for individuals age 50 and over who want to counteract the negative effects of osteoporosis. Trained RSVP volunteers lead participants in weight-bearing exercises designed to address specific areas of the body affected by osteoporosis.
Studies have shown that people who participate in Bone Builders and similar exercise programs twice a week for one year can increase their bone density by an average of 1 percent. In addition to building bone density, benefits of the classes include improved balance and poise, increased energy and mobility, and decreased blood pressure.
A new Bone Builders class will begin meeting regularly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the Fields Lane Community Room in mid-January. There is no cost for the class. Two release forms must be completed prior to participation in the class. Those interested may stop by the Open House to register and pick up the required paperwork. There will also be refreshments and a class demonstration.
