BLAINE – Dorothy Elaine (Beaton) Bailey, 82, passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Elaine was born on Sept. 27, 1933, on a farm in Monitcello, to the late Harry and Dorothy (Erskine) Beaton.
She will always be remembered for her constant smile, kindheartedness, great sense of humor, and her positive attitude. A survivor of two separate bouts of late stage cancer, Elaine truly embodied a fighting spirit and was always an encouragement to everyone around her. Most of all, Elaine shined the light and love of her Savior Jesus in every situation and challenge in her life. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.
Elaine was the valedictorian of her 1951 class at Aroostook Central Institute. She also attended Kutztown State College in PA. Elaine was formerly employed as a bookkeeper at Farm Credit in Fort Fairfield, and Grim’s TV in Hamburg, PA. She also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1995. Elaine was a very active member of the communities in which she lived, serving in church positions and on the Hamburg Area school board and PTA. She was a member of Mars Hill United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, choir, and also chaplain for the American Legion Mars Hill Post 118 Auxiliary.
Elaine was the wife of the late Nevin A. Bailey, Jr. They were married in 1962 and celebrated 47 years of marriage at the time of his passing.
Elaine is survived by four children: Edward Bailey and his wife, Ilene of Morrisville, PA, Daniel Bailey and his wife, Katie of Hamburg, PA, Margaret Yeager and her husband, Ben of Blaine, and Harry Bailey and his wife, Bridget of Blaine. Elaine was the beloved grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Mallory Quaintance, Ashley and Charles Yeager, Sylvia Bailey, Greta, Madeline and Ada Bailey, Kimberly, Julia, Adrienne, Isabelle, Theodore, Josephine and Pauline Bailey. She is also survived by two sisters: Mary Valadez of Hampton, VA, and Margaret Glowa of Shelton, CT.
Funeral services were held at the Mars Hill United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Sue Brown officiating. Friends visited from noon until the time of church service. Private committal services took place at Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Caribou.
