UMPI’s Hotham gains honor
University of Maine at Presque Isle junior forward Amanda Hotham of Fort Fairfield has been selected the Association of Division III Independents women’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 3.
Hotham averaged 13.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game over the course of three games played that week. She scored in double figures in all three games and had her best game in the Owls’ 50-47 victory over University of New Brunswick-St. John Jan. 3, scoring 14 points to go along with 17 rebounds on 50 percent shooting. Hotham shot 45.2 percent from the floor on the week and earns the recognition for the second time this year.
Worcester is Rookie of the Week
Husson freshman guard Kenzie Worcester has been named the North Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It marks the second time this season she has claimed this award.
Worcester, who is from Washburn, averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals in a 2-1 week for the Eagles. In a 74-57 win over Maine Maritime, the rookie posted nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Earlier in the week, the guard played a pivotal role in Husson’s 65-64 win against Southern Maine as she netted 16 points, gathered five rebounds, dished four assists, earned four steals and tallied one block.
Registration for winter programs begins
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department’s fifth- and sixth-grade basketball and fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade cheerleading programs begin soon and registration is underway.
The fees for these programs are $25 for PI residents or $75 for non-residents. The registration period will run through Jan. 20 and registrations can only be done in person at the recreation office, located in the Haskell Community Center building on Main Street. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday — Friday.
