MARS HILL & EASTON — Elvira Hannah (Logue) McAdam passed away peacefully on January 15, 2016 at the age of 100 surrounded by family at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill, ME.
Elvira was born July 19, 1915 to William and Hannah (Brewer) Logue in West Glassville, NB, Canada. Her mother, Hannah died giving her birth. Elvira was raised by her father and supported by other relatives on both the Logue and Brewer sides of the family. Elvira was predeceased by both parents, her husband Paul in 2001, her sister Leila Grey and brothers, James and Billy Logue.
She married Paul McAdam in 1945. Shortly before marriage, Paul had moved to Easton, Maine to work for George Black as a mechanic in Black’s Garage. Elvira remained on the Logue home farm to support her father until his death in 1948. In 1948 she and son Bernard relocated to Easton to be with her husband and have the family together in one place.
She always worked outside of the home to assist with the financial needs of the family. She worked each fall picking potatoes and could easily pick 100 barrels a day if the picking was good. In the early 50’s Vahlsing, Inc. grew strawberries and she worked picking them as well. She also was employed with Birds Eye in Caribou for a time in their food processing operations. In the 1960’s she worked for Vahlsing, Inc. in their newly established French Fry processing operation (now McCains). After retirement, she and Paul spent many summer days fishing the numerous streams and ponds in the Tobique Valley. Additionally they spent several winters in Florida.
Elvira is survived by her son, Paul Bernard McAdam and his wife, Joan of Mars Hill; granddaughter, Kimberly McAdam Hall and her husband, Joel of Presque Isle; grandson, Jeffrey McAdam and his wife, Cindy of Dedham, MA; great- grand-daughters, Angelica Rose McAdam, Kelsey Jo Burlock, Hannah Grace McAdam; and great- grandson, Rylan Lucas McAdam.
