Pines CEO joins insurance board
LEWISTON — Community Health Options has announced that three new board directors will begin their terms in 2016, accompanied by three foundation directors who were elected to the board.
Joining the CHO leadership from Aroostook County will be Jim Davis, CEO of Pines Health Services in Caribou. Davis’ responsibilities at Pines Health include overseeing all aspects of executive leadership for the multi-specialty provider, which serves northern Aroostook County with headquarters in Caribou and other locations in Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle, Van Buren and Washburn. 
According to CHO officials, Davis received his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and master’s degrees from San Jose State University and the University of California, Irvine. He previously served as board chair of Community Health Options’ formation board and joined the board in the fall of 2011.
His primary efforts are focused on physician recruitment, pursuit of diverse funding streams, quality improvement, and service expansion to meet the needs of the county’s communities, as well as operations/financial management. He is active in state and local community affairs and multiple volunteer leadership roles.
“As a non-profit, Member-led plan, the board election is fundamentally important to emphasizing accountability back to our members,” said Kevin Lewis, president and chief executive officer of CHO. “Our newly elected directors are a talented group of individuals with diverse perspectives. They are each committed to our mission to provide affordable, high-quality health benefits.”
The board of directors provides oversight and governance for the non-profit health insurance entity and is elected solely by the plan’s members. The election process began last spring with an invitation to members to submit applications to become board director candidates. More than 1,900 members cast ballots in the recent election.
Other new board members include: Frederick C. Craigie Jr., PhD, of Augusta, a clinical psychologist, educator and writer; Angela Berry, human resource manager for East Branch Delivery Services of Auburn; Tonua Fedusenko-Vancea, owner and president of public relations firm TJS Communications, Inc., of Old Orchard Beach; Felicity Myers, LCSW, therapist, mediator and guardian, of Newcastle; and David Shipman, supervisor at consumer/worker cooperative Fedco Seeds in Clinton.
CHO is a non- profit, member-led health plan providing insurance benefits for individuals, families and businesses.
