Wildcat hockey team collects second win
Presque Isle topped Hampden Academy on the road Saturday, 5-2, behind a big offensive performance by senior Cooper Madore.
Madore scored four times, including the tying goal at the end of the second period and the go-ahead goal and an insurance tally in the third.
Denny Young got Presque Isle on the board in the first period off a Jillian Flynn assist, while Madore made it 2-0 before the Broncos stormed back with three unanswered goals to take the lead. Then Madore furnished his heroics.
“This is the first time our young team has looked hungrier than our opponents, and it resulted in a W,” said PI coach Carl Flynn.
The previous evening in Brewer, Madore scored off a Young assist to put the Wildcats on top early in the second period, but the Witches scored twice later in the period and added two more in the third for the 4-1 win.
Jillian Flynn and Andre Daigle combined to face 24 shots in goal for PI.
“I thought we played well with them the entire game except for about four minutes, which unfortunately they scored four goals,” said the coach. “It shows our inexperience.”
The Wildcats are now 2-9 and in eighth place in the Class B North standings and have upcoming home games Thursday against Waterville and Saturday against Brewer. PI needs some wins to move up into the top seven and make the post-season.
