Town manager ponders losing hair for good cause

 MAPLETON NEWS

The staff at the Mapleton Town Office is raising funds for Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recovery (C.A.N.C.E.R.) and the upcoming Planet Head Day on Feb. 20, 2016.

The staff is selling 50/50 raffle tickets with the hopes of raising $1,500 by that date. If they meet their goal, Town Manager Jon Frederick has agreed to have his head shaved.
Tickets can be purchased at the Town Office and are $1 for one, $5 for six and $10 for 15. A GoFundMe account has also been created for this challenge and baked goods will be sold as well. All proceeds will be donated to C.A.N.C.E.R.
Planet Head Day is C.A.N.C.E.R. largest annual fundraiser and will be held at The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Wieden Hall on the 20th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event is open to the public and there will be free pizza, water and cake available. Guests will also enjoy door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, games for children, clowns and their balloon creations.
Those wishing to have their heads shaved for the cause will be able to do so with the help of Great Beginnings Salon stylists. Participants could also wear a cap to have their head painted like a planet of their choosing. Donations for the event will be accepted at the door.
For more information, or to volunteer your time, please contact Louise Cardone-Calabrese, C.A.N.C.E.R. board member at 764-0766 or email louise35@myfairpoint.net.
