Collins will chair NMCC Foundation
PRESQUE ISLE — Gregg Collins of Caribou has been elected chairman of the Northern Maine Community College Foundation, a non-profit organization which raises and distributes funds to help NMCC meet its commitment to provide superior educational opportunities. Much of the funding is in the form of scholarships. The Foundation also supports programing equipment needs and the expansion of college facilities.
Gregg Collins is the vice president and treasurer of the S.W. Collins Company, which has locations in Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Houlton and Lincoln. 
He is a graduate of the University of Maine in Orono, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. He has served on the foundation since 2007 on various committees and is also currently serving on the finance and investment committee.
“We are grateful to have a person of Gregg’s caliber and commitment to provide strong leadership and to direct the important work of the foundation,” said Tim Crowley, NMCC president. “Over the years the foundation has been fortunate to have exceptional individuals dedicate their time and expertise for the good of the students who attend NMCC.
“Last year, the foundation distributed $60,000 in scholarship money—our most successful year to date,” Crowley said.
“I’m very proud of the achievements of the foundation and am looking forward to working with a great group of enthusiastic members who understand the connection between a well-educated workforce and a strong economy,” said Collins.
“The foundation makes it possible for more students to obtain higher education with as little financial debt as possible. Northern Maine Community College works hard to understand the needs of area employers and design programs to fit those needs. The college and the foundation are vital to the growth of Aroostook County.”
Collins is a member of the board of directors at Cary Medical Center, the Maine Community Foundation, Aroostook Aspirations, the University of Maine Foundation, the Presque Isle High School Regional Trades Program Advisory Committee and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine Advisory Committee.
He was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2015 and the Maine Lumber Person of the Year in 2004.
He resides in Caribou with his wife, Lori, and they have three children.
