CARIBOU — Ruth D. Ouellette, 89, passed away February 12, 2016 at Caribou Rehab and Nursing Home surro-unded by her family.
She was born December 22, 1926 in Ludlow, Maine, the daughter of Rev. Reuben and Abby (Demerchant) Doody. Ruth graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton. Shortly after, she visited Caribou, where she met the love of her life, Walter Ouellette. They were married in 1946 and started their family. Ruth worked as a medical secretary at several doctor’s offices, but loved her years as the office manager for Dr. H. D. Collins. She was a long time member of the Caribou United Baptist Church and enjoyed many friendships there. Ruth and Walter spent most of their spare time enjoying their children and friends at their camp on Long Lake. A beaten path connected their camp with the Michauds’, Griffeths’, Thayers’ and Henry and Harriet Ouellette’s nearby. After retirement, Ruth loved to create arts and crafts and could be found at many of the local craft fairs with items that she had sewn. One of her greatest pleasures has been time spent with her four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She carried photo albums of the two recent great-grandbabies to share with nursing home staff, residents and visitors.
Ruth is survived by her son , David Ouellette and wife Rhoda; daughter, Joan Couture and husband Gilbert; brother, Harold Doody of Florida; grandchildren, Julie Murphy and her husband Michael, Jeffery Couture and wife Stephanie, Christopher Couture and wife Annie, John Ouellette; great-grandchildren, Keegan Cogswell, Luke Couture, Graham Murphy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Walter, siblings Roscoe Doody, Mildred Ross, Alberta Estabrook, Arnold, Thomas, Reuben, and Atwood Doody.
Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, 1-2 p.m., Sunday Feb. 14, until the time of services which were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Kiehn officiating. Spring interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
