Theriault to play on elite hockey team

Presque Isle High School freshman Amelia Theriault has had a busy winter of hockey and the aggressive schedule will continue into the spring.

Theriault was selected to compete in the New England Girls 15 Selects Evaluation Camp (formerly known as Festival) at Northford Ice Rink in North Haven, Conn. April 29-May 1.
The daughter of Don and Ariana Theriault was among 100 girls from Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island trying out for the elite squad in Hooksett, N.H. on Nov. 8, 2015. Ten days later she learned she had earned a spot, which gives her the chance to play in the upcoming tourney in Connecticut and then attend a summer camp in June.
“This will be a series of mini-camps and exhibition games where USA Hockey scouts will be looking to select a number of players that they will invite to Colorado for USA Hockey national camp,” said Don Theriault. “This is the process for selecting the national teams that compete in international tournaments every year, and eventually the Olympic team.”
Amelia Theriault has played hockey for eight years, for a total of 14 full seasons when including spring seasons. This year, she played her winter hockey for the Western Phantoms Female Bantam AAA team, based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and will play this spring for the V-Red Prospects AAA team that does tournaments and showcases in cities like Montreal, Quebec City, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Hooksett, N.H. and Marlborough, Mass.
The 14-year-old Theriault is being coached by Sara O’Toole, who played for the University of Minnesota-Duluth where she won a national championship and was a first team All-American in 2008. Assisting O’Toole is Lukie Nussbaum, who played for Team Switzerland in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
