102 Years Ago – Feb. 26, 1914

    Serious loss — The present protracted period of cold weather has meant the loss of thousands of dollars to the farmers of Aroostook County. Not only have a great many bushels of potatoes been spoiled by the effect of the frost, but thousands of bushels of potatoes and the houses in which they were kept have been destroyed by fire during the past two weeks.

    PIHS wins championship — Presque Isle High School beat Aroostook Central Institute at Mars Hill Friday evening by a score of 30 to 23. This victory gave PIHS, for the second successive year, the championship of the Northern Aroostook High School Basketball League.

75 Years Ago – Feb. 27, 1941

    New men’s store — The Trading Post, a men’s furnishing store located on State Street, adjacent to the bridge, will open for business this coming Saturday.
    New to Alpha Zeta — Four of the six new members elected by Alpha Zeta national agricultural fraternity, from the University of Maine, were Aroostook County boys.

50 Years Ago -March 3, 1966

    Rotary marks 61st — This week the Rotary Club of Presque Isle observed the 61st anniversary of the founding of Rotary on Feb. 23rd, 1905, in Chicago. The city’s Rotary Club, organized in 1923, has 110 members.
Chamber names director — Milton A. Bailey, president of the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce, today announced the appointment of Daryl Gaiennie, vice president of Maine Public Service, to the directorship of the chamber.

25 Years Ago – Feb. 27, 1991

    First hoop crown — The Lady Hornets captured the school’s first Eastern Maine basketball title with a 49-46 overtime win over the Shead Lady Tigers at the Bangor Auditorium in the Class D schoolgirl final.
    TAMC will mark 10th year — The Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill and Gould Memorial Hospital in Presque Isle united to form a new organization on Jan. 10, 1981: The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC). Fort Fairfield’s Community General Hospital joined the TAMC family in 1982 and most recently, Crown Ambulance Service in 1988. In celebration of its 10th anniversary, TAMC will publish a special annual report titled “Ten Years Together.”
