Snow refreshes sledding trails
Trail Report
We are back into the swing of things throughout the majority of The County. Recent snow and cold temps should set us up for nice trails. A few areas did not get much snow, so be careful if out in these sections.
Central areas were down for a week or so due to icy conditions. The ice is still there under the snow. Keep this in mind and ride right.
Caution: River crossing in the Fort Fairfield area is not advised due to unsafe ice conditions on the Aroostook. The Madawaska River as well is unsafe.
Trail Info
ITS 92: Leaving Fort Kent and going to Allagash is in great condition. Check out the Glazier Lake loop trail, which is in fantastic shape.
ITS 90: Portage and Caribou have been out; Fort Fairfield was to be out Friday. Caribou will be not grooming their section from trail 88 to 105; everything else will be done. Portage is in great shape.
ITS 120, also known as the Deboullie Trail, is groomed and in very good condition. Remember to get gas at Portage, Eagle Lake or St. Francis. Stop by Deboullie Pond for great pictures.
ITS 83: From Presque Isle north this trail will be in very good condition. There is a small water hole behind the old MDOT garage in Axle Siding. With the cold temps this area should be safe.
ITS 81: Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Caswell, Van Buren, Grand Isle and Madawaska are reporting their sections to be in good to great shape. There is still a logging operation near Cyr Cove; watch for signs.
ITS 85: From the rooftop of The County to Ashland, this trail is in great shape. The farther south you go there will be patches of ice. Clubs are out trying to take care of this. Shin and Oxbow are reporting that their sections are good, and Shin Pond is grooming to Whetstone.
ITS 105: This trail is setting up in very good shape, and as you go north the better the snow cover.
ITS 88: Ashland and Aroostook River will be out on their sections. Fort Fairfield planned to go out Friday.
ITS 86: Wooded sections of this trail are in good shape, with a lot of ice in the open areas.
71A is closed from Oxbow to Ashland, as the Aroostook River is not safe to cross.
71D is being groomed and is in good shape.
