On Friday, Feb. 26, Washburn District Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss Night, presented by the 21st-Century Grant After School Program.
Students and families were invited to participate in literacy activities throughout the evening. This included reading in the library, crafts, face painting, physical activities in the gym, and having a picture taken with The Cat in the Hat. Door prizes were also drawn.
The event was a very big success and a wonderful opportunity for children and their families to enjoy time together at school that promotes the importance of reading.
The event carried on into the following week with Community Reading Day, in which the community members, parents, teachers and also some retired teachers were invited to read a book to the class of their choosing. Grades Pre-K through grade 12 were all read one of the many great Dr. Seuss books.
Both schools were grateful to have someone come into class and read to them. It was another great way to get our children involved in the importance of literacy. Many thanks go out to Mr. Ericson, Ms. Cote, Mrs. Herzog and the entire After School Program staff and all of the volunteers who took time out to read to a class.
