Two join NMCC board

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine Northern Maine Community College has announced that Ryan Bushey and Fred Grant, both of Houlton, have been elected to the NMCC Foundation board.

The foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise and distribute funds to help NMCC meet its commitment to provide superior educational opportunities. Much of the funding is in the form of scholarships; the foundation also supports programming equipment needs and the expansion of college facilities.
Fred Grant  is the president and owner of WHOU 100.1 FM/Northern Maine Media, Inc. of Houlton.  The company provides marketing and technology services including radio, video, web, social media, print and technology management services to Northern Maine.
Grant developed OpportunitiesAroostook.com, a regional job board dedicated to marketing employment opportunities in The County. He is also the owner and creator of CollegeHelpers.com, an online job board business that manages the part-time off-campus job postings for colleges (including Boston College, Bentley College and Wellesley College), employers and students.
He earned his MBA in management from Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y., and the University of Hartford, where he earned his bachelor of music in music education.
“Fred takes a fresh and innovative approach to developing community relations,” said Gregg Collins, chair of the NMCC Foundation. “We’re very happy to have his marketing and technological expertise on the board and his understanding of higher education. He is a welcome addition to an already strong foundation.”
Grant earlier served as the director in the Office of Campus Life at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. He is a current member of the RSU 29 school board, the Houlton Rotary Club and became a Paul Harris Fellow in 2012.
Ryan Bushey is the human resource manager for Louisiana Pacific Corporation in New Limerick, where he is in charge of recruiting, training, public relations and benefits administration. He also works with the corporate HR office on strategic planning and training at LP plants in North America. Before that, Bushey was the continuing education coordinator at NMCC, where he managed course offerings and sold customized training to businesses in Aroostook. He also held a position as human resource director and associate administrator for Irving Woodlands, LLC.
Bushey earned his master’s degree in business with a concentration in finance from Husson College, and his bachelor’s in business also from Husson.
“Ryan’s background and experience in business, the workforce and education are a perfect match for the mission of Northern Maine Community College and its Foundation,” said Collins. “We are focused on making higher education and preparation for meaningful employment a reality for our students. Ryan understands employer needs and the importance of a well-educated labor force. He will be an invaluable member of our board.”
Bushey is a member of the Maine State Workforce Board; is past president and current board member of the Northeast Society of Human Resource Managers; serves on the Aroostook and Washington County Workforce Investment Executive Board; is a member of the Aroostook Partnership Board; is on the Region II Applied Academics Advisory committee and is on the Houlton/Hodgdon Adult Education advisory board.
