WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, recently received two awards honoring her work as a statesman and with children.

The Champions for Children award was presented during the Invest In Kids Advocacy Summit, hosted by Save the Children and Save the Children Action Network (SCAN). Senators Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., Chris Coons, D-Del., and Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., also received the award.

“We are honored to present these awards to these champions for kids,” said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children. “We’d like to thank them for their dedication to improving access to high-quality early childhood education here and ending the preventable deaths of mothers and children around the world.”

The next day, Collins was honored with the Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Statesmanship Award by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Collins was recognized by FDD for her leadership to build bipartisan coalitions in support of critical national security issues, in particular with respect to Iran and questions of international commitments and terrorism.

FDD Executive Director Mark Dubowitz said, “Her considered approach to this important issue is a model of the way that lawmakers — of the way that statesmen — should approach national security decisions.”
