EASTON, Maine — The Aroostook County Action Program’s Healthy Aroostook recently sponsored a Kick Butts Day activity with Easton youth.
The March 16, 2016 event coincided with Kick Butts Day, a national event organized through the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, and included auditing the local store, Country Farms Market, for tobacco advertising geared towards youth.
Staff from Healthy Aroostook, a local Healthy Maine Partnership, visited Easton Recreation Department youth and provided them with education and training on how to spot advertising geared towards youth as well as signage promoting the No Buts! Program. A follow-up class on the hazards of smoking and tobacco use concluded the program.
“We were so pleased to work with the Easton Rec Department kids,” said Jo-Ellen Kelley, community education specialist with ACAP/Healthy Aroostook. “Raising awareness for young people is a critical part of helping them avoid smoking now and in the future.”
