Bowlers in tourneys

Northern Lanes of Presque Isle hosted a tournament and some local bowlers competed in another downstate recently.

    The fourth annual Memorial Tournament took place April 10, 2016 at the local bowling alley. It is held in memory of all bowlers who have passed away over the years.
Ruby LaFrance was the women’s winner, while Budd Nicholson, Jr. claimed the men’s tourney title. Joining LaFrance in the women’s rolloffs were Mona Reiersen and Tracie Morris, while Chip Hafford, Joe Dunn and Jeff Nichols were others in the men’s rolloffs. Twenty six men and nine women competed in the event.
In the 94th Eastern Maine Bowling Tournament, held March 30 through April 2 at Spednic Club in Baileyville, Presque Isle was well represented as Presque Isle Elks 2 placed first, followed by Presque Isle Elks 1 in second. Trinity Lodge came in fourth in the 10-team field.
Presque Isle Elks 1 had the high single with 630 pins and also had the high triple with 1,758. Presque Isle Elks 2 had the high average with 110.39.
Tom Pelkey of Trinity had the high average of 116.85. Craig Nickerson of Presque Isle Elks 2 posted a 173 for the high single and Joe Dunn, also of Presque Isle Elks 2, owned the high triple with a 404.
Those with the top six averages made the all-star team. They were Pelkey, Michael Lee of Presque Isle 1 (116.3), Larry Good (115.81) and Dunn (115.04), both of Presque Isle 2, Jack Nicholas of Calais 1 (112.96) and Bobbie Hood of Woodland 1 (112.15).
Members of the winning team included Nickerson, Dunn, Good, Derek Ouellette, Chuck Fletcher and Jim Kennedy. Members of runner-up Presque Isle Elks 1 are Lee, Rick Curtis, Woody Shaw, Randy Hitchcock, Larry Pulcifur and Michael Ireland.
Trinity Lodge’s roster included Pelkey, Mike Patenaude, Steve Spooner, Terry Grant, Matt Simonds and Mike Gardner.
