Owl softball team host weekend twinbills
Await seeding for national tournament
The University of Maine at Presque Isle softball team finally gets to play home games this weekend. After playing its first 32 games on the road, and going an impressive 21-11 in the process, the Owls will host Fisher College of Boston both Saturday and Sunday in doubleheaders beginning at noon at the Presque Isle High School softball field.
Saturday is the Childhood Cancer Awareness Gold Games, in which players will auction off special gold uniforms with proceeds going to local charities. Sunday is Senior Day, with fourth-year players Jessica Campbell of Lisbon, Amanda Allen of Limestone and Katie Patenaude of Presque Isle all being honored.
UMPI is currently in a tie for fourth in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association coaches poll. The team will find out its seeding for the USCAA National Tournament on May 5 at noon. The tourney is taking place in Akron, Ohio May 15-19, 2016.
