Aroostook County children participate
in ACAP’s Oral Health contest
HOULTON, Maine — Aroostook County Action Program’s (ACAP) Oral Health Education Specialist, Anne Chapman, is pleased to announce the names of three Aroostook County children who won the County’s Oral Health Care Poster Contest. The theme for 2016 National Children’s Dental Health Month Poster Contest was “Sugar Wars!”
“ACAP loves providing oral health education to students,” explained Chapman. “And the children love art. The annual poster contest is a great way for them to learn about taking care of their teeth while having some fun, too!”
The contest was for kindergarten, grades 1-2 and grades 3-4. Nine children received first, second or third prize.
It was a special moment for Micah LaPlante of Ashland, second-place winner for kindergarten. Not only were his mother and grandmother present with his K-2 classmates, his dad did a video conference from overseas to watch his son receive this recognition.
The poster contest is one fun way to help children learn the importance of oral health and ways to keep teeth healthy. “Oral health care is critical to overall good health,” said Chapman. “It’s important to instill good habits early in life.”
