NMCC commencement is May 14

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine Northern Maine Community College President Tim Crowley has announced that Congressman Bruce Poliquin will deliver the commencement address during the ceremony on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

NMCC’s commencement will be held at The Forum in Presque Isle at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 14. The representative from Maine’s Second Congressional District serves on the House Financial Services Committee, which is charged with providing oversight of the financial services sector and helping to expand the economy. Poliquin also serves on several caucuses including the Military Veterans Caucus, the Cybersecurity Caucus and the Rural Health Care Caucus.
He graduated from Harvard University with a degree in economics and began his business career in Chicago. For 15 years, he was the principal in an investment advisory firm in New York City. From 2010-2012, the Waterville native was Maine’s state treasurer before running for Congress.
“I am grateful to have this wonderful opportunity to speak to these accomplished students as they prepare for the next step on their career paths,” said Poliquin. “These graduates are the leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow, and it is a tremendous privilege to join them on this special day.”
“We’re honored to have Congressman Poliquin speak to our graduates about the ability to succeed with persistence and hard work,” said Crowley. “I know the congressman’s own accomplishments will be an inspiration.”
This year’s graduating class has 200 students. The largest group will graduate from the Trade and Technical Occupations Department, where 76 students will earn associate degrees in automotive collision repair, building construction technology, diesel hydraulics and wind power technology, to name a few.
NMCC’s Student of the Year, Crystal Condo of Presque Isle, will deliver the student address on behalf of the Class of 2016.
A reminder to those planning to attend: Large bags will not be allowed inside The Forum due to increased security measures.
