Pageant queens crowned in Mars Hill

The Mars Hill Little Miss, Pre-teen Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Mars Hill 2016 Pageant was held on Friday, April 15 at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. The contestants opened with a number choreographed by Shelby Kilcollins to “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease.
The master of ceremonies for the evening was Evan Kearney.
The first contestant was Abigail Howlett, daughter of Paul and Charity Howlett, who sang “Rainbow Connection” for her talent.
Cassie Codrey sang “Maybe” as her talent. The daughter of Samantha Woodworth and Daniel Codrey, Cassie was named first runner-up Little Miss and Miss Congeniality.
Abrianna McDonald is the daughter of Justin and Jocelyn McDonald. She sang “Animal Crackers in My Soup” as her talent.
Harleigh Allen was named Little Miss Mars Hill 2016. The daughter of Chad and Sami Allen, she did a gymnastics routine to “I Want Candy” as her talent. She also received the award for high ticket sales for the younger group.
Aleigha West performed a monologue entitled “Snow White” as her talent. The daughter of Philip West III and Keilee Stickney was named First Runner-up Pre-Teen Mars Hill 2016.
Delaney McKeen was named Pre-Teen Miss Mars Hill 2016. The daughter of Wade and Jennifer McKeen sang “Fly to Your Heart” as her talent.
Mersaydez Johnston is the daughter of Rusty Johnston and Malissa Boynton. She sang “Mersaydez Benz” as her talent.
Madison Howlett, the daughter of Paul and Charity Howlett, was named first runner-up Junior Miss. She performed a dance routine to “Shut Up and Dance With Me” as her talent.
Named Junior Miss Mars Hill 2016 was Janelle Tweedie, the daughter of Joshua Tweedie and Jennifer Tweedie. She sang “Somebody To Love” as her talent. She also received the award for high ticket sales for the older group.
Lillie Mahan performed a clogging dance to “Happy” as her talent. The daughter of Stacey and Jennifer Mahan, she was named 2016 first runner-up Teen Mars Hill as well as Miss Congeniality.
Named Teen Miss Mars Hill 2016 was Maranda Anthony, the daughter of Susan and William Anthony. She sang “When We Were Young” as her talent.
Meagan Willis is the daughter of Corinna Willis and Chris Small. She performed a hula hoop routine to “Good To Be Alive” as her talent.
Named Miss Mars Hill 2016 was Noelle Bailey, daughter of Kelly and Dan White and Alan Bailey, Jr. She sang “Walking After Midnight” as her talent.
Others who performed were 2015 Little Miss Izabel Pryor, who did a gymnastics routine to “Footloose;” 2015 Pre-Teen Gracie Bailey, who did a monologue entitled “Sincerely Gracie”; 2015 Junior Miss Sydney Garrison, who performed a vocal selection entitled “Angel By Your Side;” 2015 Miss Mars Hill Dayna Collins, who did a lyrical dance to “Glitter in the Air;” and 2015 Teen Miss Maine Potato Blossom Chloe Wheeler, who performed a vocal selection entitled “Dear Future Husband.”
Library happenings
Law Week will be celebrated at the Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library on Thursday evening, May 5 from 6-8p.m.
Lawyers in Libraries: Law Day 2016 is a free event that is open to the public.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet with a lawyer and receive information about free resources, low-cost legal assistance and legal referrals. Attorney Sarah LeClaire will be at the library to provide resources and assistance to people in need, talk about statewide legal issues and meet with library patrons.
The goal of the day is to provide Maine citizens with access to legal advice and information so that they are better prepared to face legal issues that arise. In addition, some attendees will have the opportunity for a brief private consultation with the attorney about personal legal matters.
Aroostook Health Center
Upcoming events for the week of May 4-10 include: Wednesday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Wii Bowling at 9 a.m., iPad Fun at 9:30 a.m. and Residents Council at 2 p.m. Thursday will feature Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., BYF Potluck at 11 a.m., Music by The Countrymen at 1:30 p.m.
Friday will feature Dice Games at 9:30 a.m. and Dayroom Cinema with popcorn at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Mother’s Day Pie Social at 1:30 p.m. Sunday is Mother’s Day and will be a free day.
Monday begins Nursing Home Week and will feature Tee’s Waffles from 7-9 a.m., Coffee Chat at 9:30 a.m. and Ladies Diva Spa at 2 p.m. Tuesday will feature the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., FAIR Bingo at 9:30 a.m., and Big Top Fun and Games at 1:30 p.m.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, April 26 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
Bingo
The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is hosting Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes. Refreshments are available. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening with friends!
