’Cats face busy week on the tennis courts

The Presque Isle tennis teams’ schedule picks up after playing just two matches over the first couple weeks of the season.

Beginning with yesterday’s match at Caribou, the Wildcats were set to play five matches over an eight-day period. Fort Kent pays a visit to the UMPI courts this afternoon at 3:30 p.m., while on Saturday PI plays a doubleheader as Foxcroft Academy is in town for a noon match, followed by MDI visiting at 2 p.m. Next Tuesday, the Wildcats are home again against the Houlton Shiretowners in a 3:30 p.m. match.
The Wildcat squads each won their second match of the season at Washington Academy last Wednesday. The PI boys pulled out a 3-2 win thanks the doubles victories by Colin Daigle-Jordan Bonville and Isaac Madore-Mason Young and a singles triumph by No. 2 Byron Winslow.
PI’s Andre Daigle lost in third singles in a match that came down to a tie-breaker, while teammate Denny Young fought hard during his 8-6 loss in No. 1 singles.
The Wildcats girls captured a 4-1 triumph over the Raiders. All three singles players — Michelle Cawley, Sarah Morneault and Miranda Bragan — came away with wins.
Also victorious was the Presque Isle No. 2 doubles combo of Emily Colligan and Ellie Goheen. They were 8-6 victors over Kaylee Pettegrow and Kayla Murdaugh.
Sedona Lucas and Anna Robinson were beaten in No. 1 doubles by Kate Walls and Maggie Hood, 9-7, for the lone Wildcat loss on the afternoon.
