Homecoming plans underway
MARS HILL NEWS
Plans are well underway for this year’s Homecoming Days to be held Aug. 11-14, 2016. Some new activities planned for this year are a partner carrying contest, a fry pan throwing contest and more. The Keystone Kops will be out again “protecting the town” on Friday afternoon and evening — so be on your best behavior. (Not that it will save you!)
If your class is planning a reunion this year, please contact Kathy at 425-3771 or 540-6325 so your plans can be included in the brochure and on the website. Crafters and food vendors for Saturday afternoon are also asked to contact Kathy so your space can be reserved.
For those wanting to be in our parade, there is a form on the website to print off with your information for the announcers.
For more information, check out our website — www.HomecomingDays.org.
Library author visit
The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library will enjoy a visit from Tim Caverly, co-author of “The Ranger and The Reporter.” It is from The Allagash Tails Collection, a series of books that detail Caverly’s experiences as ranger supervisor while living in the nation’s premier wild and scenic river — The Allagash.
He will be in Mars Hill on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 7 p.m. to present a power point program and to sign books that will be available for purchase. His latest book is also available at the Mars Hill Pharmacy.
Library committee to hold drawing for grill
The library is holding a raffle on a Char-Broil grill. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be held before Father’s Day. It would make a great gift for one lucky dad. If you would like to purchase tickets, please check with the library at 429-9625 or contact any Ryan Shaw, Jill Lunney, Julie Bradstreet or Tomi Henderson.

Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met May 17 at the Aroostook Health Center and the speaker was Rotarian Kelly Lundeen, Director / Administrator of the Aroostook Health Center. She spoke about Music and Memory, an organization that exists to enhance quality of life for elders through personalized music and other digital technologies.
The AHC has received a grant and will receive 10 iPods and a laptop and will choose 10 long term residents to do personalized music lists for. The resident will then be able to listen to “their” chosen music whenever they want. This connects them with their individual histories, giving them back their own music and awakening even long-lost memories, identity and personhood.
Millions of aging Americans living in long-term care facilities face cognitive and physical difficulties and have left behind their familiar surroundings, familiar faces and even their favorite music. Despite the best efforts of loved ones, their lives often lack meaning, spontaneity, choice and reliable social interaction; in fact, 50 percent of nursing home residents never receive a visitor and 90 percent of their time is spent idle.
The Aroostook Health Center welcomes people of all ages who would be willing to visit their
center, volunteering to spend time with residents, playing games, doing puzzles and more. They also welcome visits from folks with their pets as many residents had most always lived with a pet of some kind.

The William Cousins Post 118 of Mars Hill is hosting Bingo on Saturday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at the Post. There are cash prizes and refreshments are available. Come on out and enjoy a fun evening with friends!
