Author to present program tonight at library
MARS HILL NEWS
The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library will enjoy a visit from Tim Caverly, co-author of “The Ranger and The Reporter.” It is from The Allagash Tails Collection, a series of books that detail Caverly’s experiences as ranger supervisor while living in the nation’s premier wild and scenic river — The Allagash.
He will be in Mars Hill tonight at 7 p.m. to present a power point program and to sign books that will be available for purchase. His latest book is also available at the Mars Hill Pharmacy.
Library committee to hold drawing for grill
The library is holding a raffle on a Char-Broil grill. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be held before Father’s Day. It would make a great gift for one lucky dad. If you would like to purchase tickets, please check with the library at 429-9625 or contact any Ryan Shaw, Jill Lunney, Julie Bradstreet or Tomi Henderson.
Smith speaks at Rotary Club meeting
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met May 24 at the Aroostook Health Center and the guest speaker was Emily Smith of Smith Farms. She spoke about the Smith Farm Solar Project 2015 that was constructed in Westfield in July and August 2015.
The 30 units installed have dual axis solar trackers that help the units produce 45 percent more energy than fixed units. Each unit has 24 modules and will help to cover 20 percent of the farm’s electrical needs. They will produce up to 310,000 kilowatt hours per year.
The units have sensors that monitor wind speeds. If winds are higher than 30 mph for a certain length of time, the unit will drop to a horizontal position until the winds die down.
Smith Farms is a sixth generation agriculture producer that works to conserve and sustain their natural resources.
