WHDS 2016 senior honor parts named

WASHBURN, Maine  The principal of Washburn District High School, Ron Ericson, has announced honor parts for graduation ceremonies being held June 3, 2016 for the Class of 2016.

Representing the class will be Noah Caron, valedictorian; Laina Mette, salutatorian; Mariah Campbell, first honor essayist; and Emilia Churchill, second honor essayist.
Caron is the son of Dara Legassie and Leland and Heather Caron. His academic awards include Phi Beta Kappa Award for Academic Excellence and the Maine Principal’s Award. He is a member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as vice president. He has been an active member of the Varsity Club, serving on the executive board for two years as president. He has served for two years as the secretary/treasurer for the Class of 2016.
He has participated in basketball, soccer, and baseball for four years and has also been a member of the cross-country, volleyball and track and field teams. During his career at WDHS, he won two regional volleyball championships and was Eastern Maine runner-up for basketball his junior year. He was the Aroostook County Individual Champion for Cross- Country his freshman year.
Caron was an all-state selection as a senior in soccer as well as All-Aroostook sophomore, junior and senior year. Noah was selected for All-Aroostook in basketball his senior year, cross-country his freshman year, and in baseball his junior year. He was also selected as a Maine McDonald’s All Star for basketball his senior year. He plans to pursue physical therapy at Husson University in the fall.
Mette is the daughter of Robert and Lisa Mette. Her academic awards include being selected as an Aroostook League Scholar Athlete and achieving highest honors all throughout high school. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and the current secretary/treasurer. She has been involved with the Varsity Club all four years and is currently serving on the executive board as vice president.
Over her four years at WDHS, she has been a part of five state championship teams: three consecutively in basketball, one in cross-country and the first state championship for the school in girls soccer. She has played basketball all four years and earned All-Aroostook honors her senior year. She has played softball for three years, soccer two years, cross country one year and is currently competing in track and field.
Mette was also the manager for the school volleyball team for three years and has participated as an assistant coach within the Aroostook Youth Basketball League. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono in the fall as a pre-med major and pursue a career in radiology.
Campbell is the daughter of Aaron and Maranda Campbell. She is a member of the National Honor Society and serving on the executive board as the current president.
She participated in soccer her freshman and sophomore years and was part of the first state championship soccer team for the Washburn girls. She also participated in track and field as a freshman, softball as a sophomore, and cross-country her sophomore, junior and senior years. As a senior she was also the manager for the boys basketball team.
Campbell participated in band her freshman and sophomore years and was selected to All-Aroostook as a freshman. She plans to study forensic psychology in the fall at Thomas College.
Churchill is the daughter of Andrew and Kolbie Churchill. She has served as class president and as a member of the Varsity Club executive board all four years. She is a member of the National Honor Society and was also co-editor of the yearbook. She has participated in basketball, soccer, cross-country and track and field all four years, and in softball for two years and volleyball for three years. She has been a part of five state championship teams: three consecutively in basketball, one in cross-country and the first state championship for the school in girls soccer.
In her sophomore year, she received the Marie Berube Scholarship for sportsmanship. In basketball she earned All-Tournament Team honors both junior and senior years as well as All-Aroostook honors her junior and senior years. Emmy was selected for All-Aroostook honors in cross country all four years and was an All-Aroostook selection in soccer her senior year.
Churchill has volunteered over 100 hours working with youth in the community through the Washburn Recreation Department. She plans to pursue a degree in education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and play women’s basketball at the college.
