An open letter to my dad
REMEMBER WHEN
Dear Dad,
It has been almost eight years since you left us for that land where there is no sickness, pain or fear.
Dad, I just want to tell you that I appreciate all you ever did for me — the values you gave me through our blood kinship and the friendship you showed later in life. I couldn’t have asked for a better “pal.” You were there for me to talk to and to bounce ideas off the wall with you to see what you thought.
There are times, Dad, when I still go to the phone and suddenly remember that you won’t answer so I sit and gaze at your picture and talk to you anyhow. My greatest hope is to someday be able to see you again Dad, if I do what I know to do.
I miss you Dad and I love you very much.
Most of you grew up with your dad. I guess you could say I was lucky; I had two dads. I met my natural dad in 1990 and found out I had more in common with him than was believable. Both my dads are gone now but they both are still in my thoughts and in my heart.
Time is getting on for me too and I know both of my sons love and respect me. I have five precious grandchildren and I can’t be any prouder of any of them if I tried.
To all dads out there on this special day of yours, Happy Father’s Day. May it be the best you ever had. Take the time this day and sit and Remember When …
