Weekly surprises at the market
To the editor:
A delightful surprise awaits you each week on Saturday at the Presque Isle Farmers’ Market! Forget the boring trip to the grocery store. When you arrive at the newly located market outside the old Sears store at the Aroostook Centre Mall you will be greeted by new products each time you come.
This past Saturday my daughter, a friend and I found escarole, daffodils, rhubarb and all manner of mixed and unmixed greens. Doughnuts with a topping of a bacon/maple sugar were a total surprise. The week before I had purchased a basket of hanging snapdragons — now there’s a new idea for a shady spot — basil cheese bread and very fresh eggs! Next week I may add some ground beef to the mix. Or honey.
The new area has some vendors inside the old store where there is no wind but there is electricity for the freshly brewing coffee. A small stable houses the three Amish horses. There is a sign saying Farmers’ Market but mostly you are on your own looking from the road for the blue-tented booths and the Amish buggies and Mr. Zook’s outdoor furniture.
Look for the market each Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. I guarantee you will enjoy the visit. And you will come back the next week looking for the next new offerings as the season progresses.
