PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The middle school track and field season wrapped up June 1 with the Aroostook League championship held at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex.
In the team results, the Caribou girls edged past Valley Rivers of Fort Kent for the title, while the Presque Isle boys won by the slimmest of margins — by one point over the Vikings.
Individually, Dolcie Tanguay of Valley Rivers and Ben Ryan of Presque Isle picked up the overall victories.
The Caribou girls scored 125 points, followed by Valley Rivers with 120. Fort Fairfield was third with 64, PI fourth with 53 and Union 122 fifth with eight.
Event winners and their times or marks were: 100-meter dash, Annika Reynolds, Fort Fairfield, 14.51 seconds; 200-meter dash, Paige Espling, Caribou, 30.18 seconds; 400-meter dash, Espling, 1:06.96; 800-meter run, Tanguay, 2:45.56; 1,600-meter run, Tanguay, 6:25.34; 100-meter hurdles, Tanguay, 19.06 seconds; 4×100-meter relay, Caribou (Elsie Patton, Emma Hixon, Kimberlee Susi and Chelsea Levesque), 59.89 seconds; 4×200-meter relay, Caribou (Patton, Marienna St. Peter, Susi and Levesque), 2:13.7; high jump, Espling, 4 feet, 10 inches; long jump, Tanguay, 13 feet, 11 inches; shot put, Bailee Mallett, Fort Fairfield, 28 feet, 5 inches; and discus, Emma Stewart, Caribou, 65 feet, 11 inches.
The Presque Isle boys scored 131 points to defeat Caribou, which had 130. Fort Fairfield registered 44, followed by Valley Rivers with 35, Washburn with 22 and Union 122 with 6.
Claiming victories were: 100-meter dash, Ryan, 13.31 seconds; 200-meter dash, Ryan, 27.71 seconds; 400-meter dash, Jacob Maynard, Washburn, 1:04.89; 800-meter run, Ethan Holdsworth, Caribou, 2:33.31; 1,600-meter run, Holdsworth, 5:31.32; 100-meter hurdles, Wyatt Keegan, Fort Fairfield, 17.17 seconds; 4×100-meter dash, Valley Rivers (Hudson Labbe, Patrick Parham, Ian Albert and Hunter Terry), 56.57 seconds; 4×200-meter relay, Caribou (James Belyea, Carter Belanger, Caleb Robbins and Darian Hartley), 2:05.88; high jump, Keegan, 4 feet, 10 inches; long jump, Ryan, 16 feet, 3 inches; shot put, Spencer Soucy, Caribou, 37 feet; and discus, Colby Langner, Fort Fairfield, 95 feet, 6 inches.
The top-10 girls were: first, Tanguay, 40 points; second, Espling, 32; third, Gabby Martin, Valley Rivers, 24; fourth, Lacy Pelletier, Valley Rivers, 22; fifth, Reynolds, 21.5; sixth (tie), Emma Stewart, Caribou, and Taylor Skidgel, Caribou, 18; eighth, Jessica Halsey, Fort Fairfield,17.5; ninth, Elizabeth Moreau, Presque Isle, 15; and 10th, Susi, 12.
On the boys’ side, making up the top-10 were: first, Ryan, 38; second, Keegan, 34; third, Holdsworth, 23; fourth, Terry, Valley Rivers, 19.5; fifth, Maynard, 16.5; sixth, Dakota Yakel, Caribou, 16; seventh, Tyus Ambrose, Presque Isle, 15; eight, Jonah Roy, Presque Isle, 13; ninth (tie), Conner Michaud, Presque Isle; Connor Albertson, Presque Isle; and Soucy, 12.
