PIHS athletic hall to grow by 5
Five individuals will soon be inducted into the Presque Isle High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Mark White, co-chairman of the hall of fame committee, made the announcement Friday following a vote by committee member held earlier in the week.
Those being inducted at a ceremony slated for Jan. 13, 2017 are Darren Carlisle (Class of 2002), Katie Delong-McQuade (2006), Peter Fields (1973), Eugene Fitzpatrick (1958) and Andy Packard (1970).
This is the seventh induction class into the school’s hall of fame.
Swimming lessons offered
The Presque Isle Recreation Center will be taking pre-paid registrations through June 24 for the upcoming session of classes, set for June 27-Aug. 5. Lessons will be held at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine Presque Isle.
Classes include Parent/Toddler (6 months to 3 years), PRE 1-Ages 3-5; PRE 2 (for ages 3-5, comfortable in the water); PRE 3 (ages 3-5, swimming); Learn to Swim levels 3-6; and adapted lessons (for children with autism).
Hours to register at the William Haskell Community Center are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday Lessons have a $25 fee per participant. Non-residents will have an additional family fee of $50. For more information on class times, call 764-2545 or visit the website www.pirec.org.
Rec program registration
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is accepting registrations for non-aquatic summer’s programs through the end of today.
Among the programs offered are archery, baseball, softball, tennis, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, disc golf and survival camp.
The program fee is $25 for residents, with an additional fee of $50 for non-residents.

Golf tourney Saturday
The Aroostook ‘House of Comfort’ will host its fourth annual Golf Classic on Saturday, June 18 at the Presque Isle Country Club.
Proceeds will go towards the construction of a palliative and hospice care home. The Father’s Day weekend event is a four-person scramble and kicks off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Registration and check-in is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. An awards and recognition ceremony will be held at the club’s restaurant immediately following the tournament.
The fee of $60 per person provides golfers with a light breakfast, coffee, soda, hot dogs on the course, refreshments after the round and a Titleist golf ball. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three men’s teams for both gross and net scores. First place is $440; second place is $360; and third place is $280.
There will be a mixed team division for the first 12 such teams to enter.
Prizes will be awarded longest drive and closest to the pin for both men and women. A $10,000 prize will be awarded for a hole-in-one.

Kart Series continues at Spud Speedway
The Friday Night Kart Series at Spud Speedway saw a new winner in the Haney’s Building Specialties Junior Champ Karts Division. Limestone’s Braden Thibodeau made his first trip to victory lane this young season followed by Noah Coventry of Van Buren and points leader Bryan Searles of Presque Isle in third.
Other results are as follows:
Kids Karts: Parker Bosse, Caribou; Avery Lloyd, New Denmark, New Brunswick.
Aroostook Savings and Loan Senior Champ Karts: first, Damian Theriault, Caribou; second, Jason Theriault, Caribou; and third, Tom Hale, Westmanland.
The next race is Friday June 17 at 6:30 p.m. Admission in the grandstands is free.
SAD 1 offering soccer camp
The SAD 1 athletic department will offer its annual soccer camp next week.
The Wildcat Soccer Camp will be held at the Presque Isle Middle School turf field and is for students currently in grades 1-8.
Girls and boys in grades 1-4 will play from 3-5 p.m. each day, with grades 5-8 going from 5-7 p.m.
The cost is $50 per student, with discounts given to families with two or more players. The camp will introduce young players to the fundamentals of the game and help more experienced
players improve their skills. Drills, individual competitions and team games will all be incorporated during the camp. Every participant will receive a Wildcat soccer T-shirt.
