EASTON Â — Â Daniel B. Turner Jr., 82, husband of Joan G. (Foster) Turner, passed away Thursday morning, June 9, 2016 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following an extended illness.Â
He was born February 16, 1934 in Easton, the son of Daniel B. Sr. and Hazel M. (Giberson) Turner. He was a graduate of the Easton High School, Class of 1951, and attended Bradford-Durfee College of Technology, Fall River, MA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Navy, Daniel worked with his father on the family farm in Easton. He was married to Joan G. Foster on April 19, 1958. He was employed by the State of Maine as a potato inspector, and farmed in Easton until 1984. He was also the owner and operator of Turner Ventilation, serving farmers throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia until his retirement in 2009. Daniel attended the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church where he was an active member of the Wesleyan Men’s Group and the Wesleyan Senior Bible Study. He was very active in his community. Dan was a member of the Maine Potato Board and a former president of the National Potato Board. During his tenure he was privileged to travel to Japan. In addition to his parents, Mr. Turner was predeceased by two brothers, William and Dell Turner; four sisters, Grace Nasser, Esther Turner, Rita Lepovitz and Dena Soucy. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan G. Turner of Easton; 5 children, Nancy Nichols and her husband Kevin of Presque Isle, Natalie Salavarria of Kendus-keag, Lisa Turner of Cumberland Center, William Turner, Kristie Bate both of Easton; one sister and brother-in-law, Phoebe and Earl Waters of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren, Ashley LaJoie and her husband Jay of Van Buren, Paige Czosnek and her husband Chris of Presque Isle, Rachelle Gray and her husband Alex, Daniel, Nicole and Ethan Salavarria all of Kenduskeag, Amelia, Olivia and Allison Bate, all of Easton; one great-granddaughter, Kathryn LaJoie of Van Buren; numerous nieces and nephews.Â
Friends called Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, 387 Centerline Road, where the funeral service was be conducted at 12:00 noon with the Rev. Bud Fancy officiating. Private interment took place at Pine Tree Cemetery, Easton. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Turner to Gideon’s International, P.O.
