Portage Hills plans open house

The Portage Hills Country Club will host an open house at the golf course on Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 12-4 p.m.

The club will offering free golf all day, with drivable and pull carts available for rent. A barbecue buffet will start at 2 p.m., along with a full bar and some kitchen items as well. Heath Bartley will provide live music from 2-6 p.m.

The club welcomes all to come out for a day of fun and free golf.

Historical Road Trip

On Sunday, June 26, the Portage Lake Historical Society will sponsor a road trip to the Acadian Village in Van Buren. The tour will depart the Portage Lake Town Hall at 11:30 a.m.

Transportation will be provided by the Ashland Recreation Department bus. Seats are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can also choose to ride ‘caravan’ style in their own vehicles.

The entrance fee is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. There is no fee to the PLHS for participating in the road trip. This will be a day trip, so be sure to dress comfortably and according to the weather. The society will provide water and there is food for sale at the Acadian Village. The bus will also stop for incidentals if riders wish.

Historical Society News

The Portage Lake Historical Society is in need of volunteers. Members seek to vote in a new board member for a one-year term, secretary and vice president for a one year term.

Anyone with an interest in the history of Portage Lake and helping to preserve the history of our area is welcome to become a part of the organization. If interested, contact Corrine Routhier at 227-0819 or 435-4361 for more information.
