REMEMBER WHEN
Does anyone else feel the same as I do about our recent spate of wet weather? We were on our way to church this morning and I jokingly said to my wife, “I didn’t like going out in the rain when I was 6 or 7 years old and I like it even less now at 61.” We had a good chuckle about that.
But seriously, it reminded me of another camping time that Don and Rick and I shared one summer. It was in the middle of June and we had had a lot of rain that spring and we three figured the first day it didn’t rain, we would stay in the cabin we had built over the winter and early spring.
We got our grub and blankets together and headed to the camp along about 4 that afternoon. We had an old woodstove we had found and I had donated a small kerosene lantern so we had all the comforts of home.
We were all in our bunks that night when it started to rain again. We were snug and dry in the camp with the fire going and we figured all was well. About a half hour later, the camp started to fill with smoke and the fire stopped drawing well.
We heard a noise outside and a few minutes later Don’s dad and his older brother sauntered into the camp. His dad had put a pie pan over the chimney to stop the smoke from going out. Don hadn’t gotten permission as he had said he did so he went home with his dad.
Isn’t it funny when certain stimuli happen, what you Remember When …?
