PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle High School spring athletic awards night was held June 6, with members of the JV and varsity softball teams, JV and varsity baseball teams, varsity tennis teams and varsity track and field teams recognized for their participation during the recently-completed sports season.
The outstanding senior athlete awards were presented at the June 9 Class Day. Members of the senior class, as well as coaches and administrators, collaborate to select the award. This year’s recipients are Jillian Flynn and Sam Gray. Flynn played soccer, hockey and softball, while Gray played soccer and baseball and also skied.
At the awards night, JV softball coach Mike Patenaude and assistant coach Katie Patenaude presented certificates to freshmen Julia Good, Grace Leavitt, Jessica Shaw and managers Sierra Blade and Kiarra Lahey; sophomores Carly Bragg, Breanna Byrd, Chloe Hammond, Hailey St. Thomas and Aza Villatora; and juniors Haley Moro and Abby Shaw.
JV baseball coach Ben Buckley presented certificates to freshmen William Bridges, Mark Graves, Andrew Hewitt, Torey Levesque, Ian Michaud, Dakota Morrow and Cole Paterson; sophomore Chandler Paradis and juniors Grant Bridges and Bradley McMann..
Girls varsity tennis coach Monica Bearden handed out a first-year letters to freshman Anna Robinson, sophomore Ellie Goheen, junior Savannah Levesque and senior Emily Colligan, a second-year letter to sophomore Miranda Bragan, third-year letters to junior Sarah Morneault and senior Sedona Lucas; and a fourth-year letter to senior Michelle Cawley.
Boys varsity tennis coach Brian Massey gave certificates to sophomores Gage Young and Austin Moreau; first-year letters to freshmen Andre Daigle and Mason Young and sophomore Jordan Bonville; second-year letters to sophomore Colin Daigle and senior Tyler Ayotte; a third-year letter to junior Denny Young; and a fourth-year letter to senior Byron Winslow.
Varsity softball coach Terry Cummings and his assistant, Peter Coffin, presented certificates to freshmen Libby Boone and Mayce Kinney and sophomore manager Megabn Butler; first-year letters to freshmen Emma Bouchard, Allison Madore, Lydia Miller; Savannah Rodriguez and Sydney Thompson; sophomore managers Kiara Lyford and Kayla Saucier, juniors Faith Leavitt and Amy Seeley and seniors Shelby Shaw, Alyssa Trombley and Taylor Williams; and fourth-year letters to seniors Hailey Cameron and Jillian Flynn.
Girls varsity track and field coach Mike Waugh and his assistants, Joe Greaves and Jason Johnson, presented certificates to freshmen Alexandra Walsh and Marina Aubin (manager) and sophomore Elizabeth Deschenes. First-year letters went to freshmen Kamryn Gilmour, Kate Goulet, Madison Jandreau and Eleanor St. Peter; and sophomore Olivia Mosher; second-year letters to sophomores Elizabeth Findlen, Isabelle Jackson and Maddie Wing; and juniors Tori Koch and Emily Sjoberg; third-year letters to juniors Grace Player and Skylar Vogel; and fourth-year letters to seniors Mandy Graham and Regan Nelson.
Waugh, Greaves and Johnson also presented boys varsity track and field awards. Certificate recipients were freshmen Garrett Morneault, Seth Roy, Iffy Sargent and Jordan Scott; and sophomores Ian Hoyt-Franz and Cameron Lahey. Earning first-year letters were freshmen Drew Cameron, Kyler Caron, Trace Cyr, Owen McQuarrie and Zechariah Morse; sophomores Max Bartley and Jonah Clark; and senior Jason Bartley. Second-year letters went to sophomore Dustin Alward and junior Chan Villatora; and fourth-year letters to seniors Parker Lambert and Connor Murchison.
Varsity baseball coach Derrick Kinney and assistant coach Curt Paterson gave out certificates to freshman manager Elizabeth Collins and sophomore manager Gabrielle Jandreau; first-year letters to freshmen Jonah Hudson and Jaren Winger, sophomores R.J. Gross and Adam Paterson; juniors Bradley Kinney and Jake Kinney; and senior manager Kellsey Michaud; second-year letters to junior Nick Bartlett and seniors Sam Gray, Cooper Madore and Caleb Nadeau; and a third-year letter to senior Kyle Rider.
Gray was selected as the winner of the Aaron Archer Award in baseball.
Cawley and Colligan won 12-letter awards for lettering all four years in all three sports seasons. Cawley lettered in fall cheering, winter cheering and tennis, while Colligan lettered in cross country running, Nordic skiing and track and field for three years and tennis for one.
Sweatshirt recipients, who accumulated six varsity letters in any combination of sports, were Jackson (in cross country, skiing and track and field), Koch (soccer, skiing and track and field), Murchison (basketball and track and field) and Player (soccer, skiing and track and field).
Earning a jackets for lettering in one sport for four years were Hailey Cameron (softball), Lambert (track and field), Murchison (track and field) and Winslow (tennis). Other fourth-year letter winners who received their jackets for participation in a previous sport were Cawley (tennis), Flynn (softball); Graham (track and field) and Nelson (track and field).
