PRESQUE ISLE — Frederick R. Lyford 91, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, Father’s Day at a Presque Isle health care facility.
He was born Dec. 12, 1924 in Milo, the son of Roland and JoAn (Caswell) Lyford. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. He worked for 39 years for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad as a signalman. Fred volunteered at The Aroostook Medical Center for 23 years, which he truly loved.
He is survived by a son, Jim Lyford and his wife, Carolyn of Presque Isle; a daughter, Mary Condon and her husband, John, of Portage; two brothers , Paul Durant of Somersworth, NH, Thomas “Tommy” Durant of Arkansas, five grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild .He was predeceased by two wives, Doreen (Cheevers) Lyford, Harriet (Perry) Lyford, a brother Roland Lyford, and a sister Janette Osnoe.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Wed., June 22, 2016 at Fairmount Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating.
