MAPLETON – Alden R. Dicker, Sr., 86, died December 14, 2006 at the Mars Hill Nursing Home. He was a resident of Mapleton, ME at the Mapletree Estates and a former resident of Presque Isle. He was born June 9, 1920 to Aaron M. and Hazel (Smith) Dicker in Mapleton, Me.
Alden grew up in Mapleton on the family farm. He married Christine Hughes on December 31, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War Two. Throughout his life, he worked at the P.I. Starch Company and for MSAD #1 for several years. He was a member of the Mapleton Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, a daughter Sandra, a brother Donald and sisters, Mae (Dicker) Porter, Margaret (Dicker) Hoffses, and June (Dicker) Buzzell. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Christine, of 68 years. A son, Alden Dicker, Jr. and his wife Georgia of Chapman, ME. A son Larry Dicker and his wife Marlene of Summerfield, Fl. A son, Roger Dicker and his wife, Anne of Westfield, ME. A daughter, Rebecca (Dicker) Wieder and her companion, Philip Woodman of South Berwick, ME. A daughter, Christy Dicker and her companion, Peter St. Peter of Portage, ME. 8 grandchildren, Jennifer (Dicker) Trombley, Julie Dicker, Stacey (Dicker) Hendricks, Heather (Dicker) Bushey, Matthew Wieder, Seth Wieder, Rachel Dicker, Deidre Dicker and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Ruth (Dicker) Belanger of Bullhead City, AZ and Patsy (Dicker) Johnson of Beltsville, MD. One very special cousin, Berniece Brown of Wytopitlock, ME and several nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered as a very kind and gentle man, who loved nature, feeding the birds, observing wildlife, and most of all spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Sunday at the Mapleton Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Woodman and Ken Phelps officiating. Visiting hours were held from 1 P.M. until time of service. Interment at Southside Cemetery in Mapleton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Mapleton Baptist Church of the American Cancer Society.
