PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – An incident at a local hotel is the latest Crime Stoppers Crime of the Month.
On Dec. 10, 2006, an employee at the Presque Isle Motel – formerly Hedrich’s Motel – on Main Street called the Presque Isle Police Department advising when she arrived at work around 7:30 a.m. she discovered the safe was missing.
Police determined that sometime overnight someone stole the safe out of a room next to the office. No signs of forced entry were found. To gain access into the safe, a key and combination were needed. Those items were reportedly taken from the drawer of an unlocked desk in the office.
The safe was said to be quite heavy and would have been hard to move.
“The safe weighed between 100 and 200 pounds and was about two feet by two feet in size. It would be extremely awkward to move,” said Sgt. Shawn Van Tassel, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
The safe contained approximately $550.
