Fire burns garage at golf course
The Presque Isle Country Club suffered a fire at a storage garage, badly damaging carts, equipment and two cars, but leaving people and the rest of the property unharmed.
The Presque Isle Fire Department arrived on the scene of the garage fire at the country club around 3 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 and had it extinguished within 10 minutes, said Fire Chief Darrell White.
Although the fire is still under investigation, White said it appeared to start along a wall in the garage, which housed 28 golf carts, a Kubota tractor and a boat. All of those carts and equipment were deemed a total loss, along with two cars that were parked near the garage.
No one was injured and the clubhouse, course and rest of the property were unaffected, said Club Manager Barry Madore.
Of the 28 carts lost in the blaze, 13 were owned by the club and the rest by members.
Madore said the club still has 25 carts to rent and noted that the course remains open and drew a range of golfers during the good weather over the long Independence Day weekend.
