Tag sale serves as fundraiser for library
MARS HILL NEWS
By Tomi Henderson
The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library is getting ready to run its annual tag sale at the former Grew’s store in Mars Hill. We will be open various hours — Saturdays, some evenings, etc. Basically, if there are lights on and cars outside, we’re open.
If you would like to volunteer and help with the sale, please contact Ione Dixon at 429-8790. Even just a few hours would be apprecated.
If you have items to donate for the sale, contact the library at 429-9625 to arrange for a time to drop off items or to have them picked up. Thank you to all who help with this fundraiser!
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met July 12, 2016 at the Aroostook Health Center and the guest speakers were Kenna Prue and Kris Bradstreet of Crown Ambulance. They spoke about the training that they have undergone and about the areas covered.
There are five bases for Crown — Limestone, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill and two locations in Presque Isle (TAMC and the fire station). There are nine ambulances, with one typically out for servicing or repairs. There were over 4,000 calls handled in the past year covering over 110,000 miles. There are 30 employees with 16 part time. Sixteen are paramedics already, but continued training is part of their job.
The Mars Hill crew covers Easton, Westfield, Mars Hill, Blaine, E Plantation and Robinson. They work two 24-hour shifts each week. “You have to love the job,” they say, and both do.
Food cupboard need
The Mars Hill Food Cupboard is in need of a special volunteer that can be available on the first Wednesday of each month from 2-5 p.m. for the food delivery. This individual or couple will be responsible for unloading the food products and stocking them on the shelves.
For more information, contact Caroline Hallett at 429-9059. Please consider this volunteer opportunity as a way to help those in need.
