‘Mews and Yips’ from the Central Aroostook Humane Society

Wow….we were recently overwhelmed with some amazing donations that came in from the Pageant Directors of the Aroostook County Summer Queen Pageant. Jasmine DeRier and Ashley Caron Estey are definitely animal lovers and organized a fund drive that brought in a truckload of supplies and also a monetary donation.

What a wonderful gift to the shelter. It takes lots of food, litter, detergents, cleaning and paper products every single day to keep the shelter animals well fed and cared for until they can find that perfect family to join.
We hope many of you were able to attend the A.W.E. Avalanche Wrestling & Entertainment Event at the Aroostook Centre Mall on July 10th. This was an exciting event and we are happy to report that a portion of the proceeds were donated to the Central Aroostook Humane Society. This was so awesome!  SH PETBULLETIN 29 16 18071347
Also a fun family event that we hope you didn’t miss was the Household Pet Show on July 12, which is always a favorite at the Maine Potato Blossom Festival. Betsy and the girls were excited to have a variety of pets show up to strut their stuff. Each pet was awarded a ribbon and great applause from the crowd. The proceeds were also to benefit the shelter.
And now a very happy ending to report: For two long years “Lucky” was missing from his family in Presque Isle. Lucky was a handsome kitty who was neutered, around 4 years old and had four paws doubled. He hung around an area trailer park most of time before he was picked up by the animal control officer and brought to the shelter. After a post on our shelter Facebook page and many wonderful followers who shared the post, Lucky’s owners saw him and came to finally take him home. He is indeed, a very lucky kitty.
We find that our Facebook page reaches so many people, not just in our area, but all over the country and beyond. It is wonderful that so many people will post and share our page and it certainly gets the word out when there is an emergency, especially in finding a lost pet or showing what pets are available for adoption.
Lately, we have had many people posting photos of their new four-legged family members and how they are adjusting to their new homes. Most of the photos show very happy, healthy adored and pampered pets, cozy and comfortable in big overstuffed recliners. That makes our hearts soar. Our hopes are that EVERY pet could find that perfect loving home to call their very own.
Summer brings festivals, family picnics and parties with good friends. Fireworks have become a normal part of celebrating, but PLEASE leave your pets at home when attending parties, festivals and celebrations. A little common sense when it comes to your beloved pet goes a long way in keeping them calm, happy and safe.
