Portage hosts annual Whoopie Pie Festival

ASHLAND NEWS

The town of Portage Lake Tourism Committee (PLTC) is proud to announce that they will once again sponsor the Portage Lake Whoopie Pie Festival on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016 from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

The event will be held on Main Street/Route 11 and is conjunction with the Portage Lake Summer Roundup festivities. If the weather indicates rain, the event will be moved to the Portage Lake Pavilion on the West Road.
The PLTC invites the community to participate by having a booth or table at this event. They are renting spaces for $10 each. Booths can be used for fundraisers or to help raise people’s awareness of a particular product or organization.
Because the focus of the event is whoopie pies, those renting space are required to have whoopie pies for sale, along with providing small-bite size samples for the public and whoopie pie contest judges to try. Participants may sell any other item they choose at their booth, but must include whoopie pies in their offerings — whether serving up traditional or other flavors.
Those interested in participating should contact Taunja Jandreau at 435-4361, or email townofportage.clerk@gmail.com.
Registrations must be received by Aug. 12.

Ashland Public Library

The Ashland Public Library invites everyone to the library. They have been doing some great things and would like the community to stop in.
The library has recently taken some historical photos of Ashland and, with the help of sponsors, had them matted and framed, and they are now on display. These photos show what life was like in Ashland in the early days.
The library welcomes donations of historical photos to add to the collection. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and can be contacted at 435-6532.
