Christmas tree honors Kneeland
EASTON NEWS
On, July 2, 2016, the Easton Board of Selectman dedicated a seven-foot spruce tree to be the town Christmas Tree and a bench at the Little School Community park in memory of Richard Kneeland.
“Dick used to gather here in chairs, sit under the tree, and talk to people in the town so we have a bench dedicated in memory of [Kneeland], and we hope this bench will be used by a lot of people as they are sitting here in the area, said chairman of the board, Michael Corey. “Dick loved the Town of Easton, he loved every aspect of it,” he added.
Kneeland was a former chairman of the Easton Board of Selectman and was a great supporter of the Easton Little School Project. The Tree Project was something he had been working on with the Town of Easton and he would be pleased to see the tree in its future location. His family would like to thank the town and the community for all of its overwhelming love and support that has been given at this time.
Celebration marks school’s 90th anniversary
The Little School Restoration Committee celebrated the school’s 90th anniversary during Easton Field Days with its first concert in the Little School Community Park.
The Jerry T. and Sons Band entertained the community with music from the 50s and 60s.Other events included a barbecue, dedication of the park and sharing of The Little School 90th anniversary cake. Awards were given to the oldest and youngest Little School alumni in attendance and the alumnus who traveled the farthest to the event. Built in 1926, the two-room schoolhouse, located on the Station Road, was used for grades one through four until 1949 and grades one and two until the town’s new elementary school opened in 1969.
A plaque to be placed in The Little School Community Park commemorating its dedication will read as follows: “The Little School Community Park is dedicated to the memory of all who attended The Little School from 1926 until it was closed in 1969, and to the people of the Town of Easton who built it in order to provide their children with the best education possible. It is our desire that the park be a place for the town to gather together for community events, to reflect on its commitment to the education of its children, and to remember how many of their children were educated in a little two room building on the Station Road known as The Little School.”
