PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The 162nd annual Northern Maine Fair starts Friday, July 29, 2016 with a mix of events, exhibitions and food inspired by the region’s past and present.
“We draw approximately 25,000 people and hopefully our crowds will be bigger this year,” said Barry Bartley, the fair’s president. “A lot depends on weather.”
The nine-day event is an agricultural fair with a side of rural carnival, with farm animal exhibits, a 4-H restaurant, daily cooking contests, woodcarving, tractor pulling, horse races, motorcycle stunts, a poker tournament, amusement rides, musical performances and a high-wire circus.
“My favorite parts of the fair are the truck and tractor pulling and the animals,” Bartley said, adding that on Sunday there will be an antique tractor pull. “It’s truly an agricultural fair.”
Bartley also noted that this year the fair has new handwashing stations for people to use after visiting the animal exhibits.
