PI stops Caribou to capture title
CARIBOU, Maine — Presque Isle captured the Northern Maine Community Recreation Association 10-12 year-old baseball championship last Wednesday by besting Caribou in the finals, 13-3.
Presque Isle banged out 13 hits in the contest to come out on top in the seven-team, single-elimination event which began with early-round games on July 25. Cody Barnes tripled and singled, Jackson Maynard, Jack Boone and Dawson Kinney added two singles apiece and Breygan Mahan, Ryllan Thibeault, Quinn DeMerchant, Asher Tuttle and Ben Beaulieu notched a hit apiece for the winners.
Presque Isle pitchers allowed only six baserunners in the six-inning game, and only three Caribou batters reached base on hits. Maynard was credited with the win on the mound.
The winning team’s path to the finals included a victory over Fort Fairfield in the semifinals after drawing a first-round bye.
Caribou toppled Ashland and Mapleton in the first two rounds. Mars Hill and Madawaska were the other teams competing in the tourney, which was held at the Little League complex.
