Portage plans weekend of Summer Roundup fun

The Town of Portage Lake will be holding their annual Summer Roundup festivities on the weekend of Aug. 12-14, 2016.
Family and adult-friendly activities will take place all weekend within the community. It’s a great time to take a ride out to the one of the most beautiful lake communities in Aroostook County. Below are a list of events. Hope to see you there.
Friday, Aug. 12
8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. — The Portage Lake Association (PLA) will sponsor an invasive plant training at the town hall. This event will help you learn about and identify what invasive plants are.
6:30 p.m. — “Just Desserts” community potluck will be held at the Pavilion. Bring a dessert to share. Hosted by the Portage Lake Historical Society (PLHS).
7:30 p.m. — “Luminary Memorial Ceremony” will be held at the Pavilion following the potluck. Luminary bags are $3 each and will help to support the historical Society.
Saturday, Aug. 13
12 noon-2 p.m. — Whoopie Pie Festival on Main Street. Come on out and sample your favorite traditional and not so traditional whoopie pies. Vendor spaces are still available for $10 per space. Contact Taunja Jandreau for information at 435-4361. This event is hosted by the Portage Lake Tourism Committee (PLTC).
2-4 p.m. — Music by the Saucier Family Next Generation Band at the Town Hall, hosted by the Portage Lake Tourism Committee.
4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.: Pig roast at the Portage Hills Country Club on Route 11 (heading north through town). The public is invited to enjoy this favorite summertime barbecue treat. The course will be open for business from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Later in the evening the club will host a dance from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. with live music by Unlucky Joe. Come out to spend an evening at one of the most beautiful golf courses in all of Maine.
8:45 p.m. — Fireworks over the lake at the Forestry Wharf sponsored by the Portage Lake Tourism Committee (PLTC).
9 p.m.-1 a.m. — The Portage Hills Country Club will host an evening of live music and dancing. Guaranteed to be a good time at this beautiful club.
Sunday, Aug. 14
10 a.m. — Breakfast at Our Lady of the Lake Church benefiting the Ashland District School students’ Opwall trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
12 noon: Parade on Main Street, followed by a picnic at the Pavilion, sponsored by the Portage Lake ATV Club.
