Society presents Fiddlers
MAPLETON NEWS
The Haystack Historical Society has announced the coming concert of the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers from Perth-Andover, N.B. The performance will be held at the Haystack Historical Museum located on Main Street in Mapleton on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 6:30 pm.
If you are unfamiliar with the Wednesday Evening Fiddlers, they were founded in 1988. The group includes fiddlers and accompanists from both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border. They play for many local fundraisers, nursing homes, variety shows and jamborees. On any given occasion they have fiddlers from age 10 to 95 on stage playing Downeast-style fiddle selections.
This performance will be a fundraiser for the Haystack Historical Society with donations being accepted at the door. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Lions host Balloon Fest
The Mapleton Lions Club will continue to be the host sponsor for the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest (COMBF), to be held Aug. 25-28 at the Northern Maine Fairgrounds in Presque Isle. The club is excited to announce that a special hot air balloon will be flying during the festival. The balloon is named “Tribirds” and will be flown by Marcos Bonimcontro of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This balloon was made with three birds to create its unique shape.
Bonimcontro has been flying the ”Tribirds” hot air balloon at festivals in New York and Montreal. The COMBF steering committee invited him to Presque Isle this year, and he agreed to come from New York. The “Tribirds” balloon was built by RVB Balôes e Infláveis Promocionais of Sao Paulo, Brazil, which specializes in the construction of all types of inflatables, including regular and special-shaped hot air balloons.
Bonimcontro, who is the founder and owner of the company, looks forward to meeting folks in Presque Isle and flying in the COMBF.
New Correspondent
With this edition of The Star-Herald, I am pleased to become the new correspondent for the Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill column.
Over the nearly 40 years that we have lived here, I have tried to stay up to date with events, activities and special news in the tri-community area. When The Star-Herald arrived each week, reading the Mapleton column was my first priority. Jennifer Buzza did a terrific job keeping us informed. I hope to do the same.
I will need your help to keep everyone informed of tri-community events and activities, especially those involving our churches, clubs and other organizations. Please feel free to send announcements and news of coming events to me. You may send messages by email at: Starherald.Tsandusky@gmail.com. You may also call the house and leave messages by calling: 764-4916. Also photos can be emailed for the column. Should you need assistance with your photo, I will be glad to help prepare it for publication.
Please remember all announcements or articles must be to me by Thursday for the following Wednesday’s paper, so that I can submit the column to The Star-Herald on Friday for printing the following week.
I look forward to serving our communities as The Star-Herald correspondent. Please contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have.
