Wintergreen treats helpers to celebration
CAA team supports arts center
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Members of the Wintergreen Arts Center board of directors and staff recently came together to thank a team from the Central Aroostook Association for their help in keeping the center clean and tidy throughout the school year.
The Central Aroostook Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1959.
Kim Guerrette Michaud, Wintergreen board co-chair, led the group in an art project to make decoupage flower vases, followed by a brunch celebration where she presented certificates of appreciation to Travis Caron, Nicole Easler, Carrie Gendreau, Kirk Malenfant, Steve Michaud, LaJeanna Miller and Amber Mullen. Jody Hull and Rebekah Taylor were unable to attend the ceremony and received their certificates at a later time.
“We thank you for all your hard work,” said Guerrette Michaud. “For the past nine months you have been cleaning the center every Wednesday morning and doing a terrific job. It means a lot to us to have you here today enjoying the very place you spend so much time making so beautiful.”
When receiving her certificate, Nicole Easler said, “This makes me feel so special. I love the frame; it glitters.” Each person received their certificate accompanied by a round of applause from all in attendance.
Stephen D. Richard, Central Aroostook Association executive director, said, “Helping to fill the needs of another Aroostook County nonprofit is very rewarding and productive work for our people. This celebration is a wonderful way for Wintergreen to thank our team for something they truly love to do.”
Other staff members from the Central Aroostook Association who took part in the celebration were Director of Administrative Services Carl Michaud, Barb McNeal and Sarah Carmichael. Members of the Wintergreen Board, including Co-chair Heather Harvell, Treasurer Sue Nickerson, Danielle Clark and Cathy Beaulieu, joined Executive Director Dottie Hutchins and teacher Corey Levesque for the celebration.
The Central Aroostook Association now consists of eight programs dedicated to helping individuals of all ages who have developmental disabilities. These programs include children supports, residential services, home and community supports, work services, adult services, Opportunity Training Center, shared living and community case management.
Located in downtown Presque Isle, Wintergreen is an organization based on the idea that creativity, activism, and community can produce great things. Their mission is to provide meaningful experiences that encourage an appreciation of the arts, stimulate creativity and innovation, and offer an artistic community space where all are welcome.
