Golf tourney raises funds for hall

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine The sixth annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame Golf Scramble was held Aug. 6, 2016 at Aroostook Valley Country Club.

Cash prizes went to the top four low gross teams and the top four low net teams.
Taking first place for gross was the Searsport foursome of Otis Kneeland, Greg Ireland, Mike Prisco and Kent Clarke, who posted a score of 16 under par. The second place team consisted of Tim Nightingale, Larry Gardner, Steve Leitch and John McCrea of Fort Fairfield and they scored a 12 under par. In third, at 11 under par, was the Bangor-based team of Mike Webb, Jay Adams, Pat Phillipon and Jake McCrea. Taking fourth, also at 11 under par, was the team of Skip Chappelle, Tom Towle, Steve Towle and Robbie Watson.
Taking first for low net in the Oldsmobile scramble format was the team of Phil Pelletier, Barry Richardson, Carroll Dubois and Alan O’Neal. Taking second were Michael Boone, Greg Palm, Tommy Shey and Niraj Karki. In third was the team of Steve Adams, Himie Towle, Bob Osterblom and Kerby Doughty, while claiming fourth were Austin Dufour, Jason Philbrick, Donald Dufour and Scott Formsby.
Longest drive winners were Jay Adams for the men and Dani Searles for the women.
An auction was held, including tickets to Boston Celtics games, University of Maine Black Bears games, along with lodging; Waterfront Concert tickets and golf packages to some of the top courses in the state. More than $7,000 was raised from the auction.
The event raised funds for the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, which will be inducting its third class on Aug. 21 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Present for the tourney were hall of fame members Steve Pound, Steve Condon and Chappelle, along with this year’s inductees Dewey DeWitt and Tony Hamlin.
