Michaud scores three as PI girls take opener

The Presque Isle girls had a successful debut Saturday, stopping Foxcroft Academy, 3-1, in a Class B game played at the Gehrig Johnson Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Madison Michaud picked up where she left off from a stellar freshman season by scoring all three Wildcat goals. The first came on a penalty kick in the first half, the second off a Mackenzie Turner assist early in the second half and the third unassisted late in the contest.
Olivia Wesley scored for the Ponies to make it a 2-1 game midway through the second half.
Savannah Rodriguez had five saves on six shots in goal for PI, while Kiara Prescott was forced to make 17 saves on 20 shots in net for Foxcroft Academy.
Meanwhile, in the Class D ranks, both the Ashland girls and the Fort Fairfield boys are unbeaten. The Hornet girls are now 5-0 as they cruised to a pair of victories, 10-0 over Washburn last Tuesday and 8-1 over Easton Thursday. Freshman Shelby Stolze led the charge against the Beavers by scoring four times. Cassidy Pelletier and Mackenzie Carter had two goals each and Willow Hall and Morgan Doughty one each.
In the win over the Bears, Carter scored four goals and dished out two assists, while Doughty contributed two goals and an assist and Stolze and Hall had a goal each. Abigail Currier scored the lone Easton goal.
The Fort Fairfield boys had no trouble at home against Southern Aroostook Friday, besting the Warriors, 13-0. The Tigers took a 6-0 record into last night’s game at Limestone against LCS/MSSM.
The Washburn boys tied Ashland, 2-2, last Tuesday and then beat Easton Thursday, 3-1. Both games were played in Washburn. Quintin Thompson and Jovanni Tavares had the Beaver tallies against the Hornets, while Lucas Craig and Mason Deabay scored for Ashland. Deabay’s goal tied the game with less than four minutes to play and was assisted by Kyle Beaulier.
Tavares scored off a McCall Turner assist to put the Beavers on the board early against the Bears, while Thompson and Turner also had goals. Isaac Currier scored off a Carson Flewelling assist for the Bears. Jake Flewelling, Easton’s goalie, made an outstanding save on a penalty kick to keep the game close.
The Ashland Hornets shut out Easton Friday, 1-0, behind Beaulier’s goal off a Craig assist midway through the second half. Steven Bellanceau had five saves on eight shots for the shutout in goal.
The Bears were able to upend Madawaska last Tuesday, 4-1. The Owls scored first, but Easton answered with two goals by Collin Sotomayor, both off penalty kicks, and one each by Jordan Doody and Keegan Kinney.
Ashland is now 2-1-2, Washburn 2-4-2 and Easton 3-2-1. Central Aroostook was idle last week and holds a 4-2 mark. The Panthers were at Madawaska yesterday.
The Beaver girls (3-5) followed up their home loss to Ashland by dropping a 3-0 decision to Easton, which won for the first time after an 0-5 start. Scoring all three goals for the Bears was Isabelle Morin.
Morin had two goals and Delia Bonner one in a 6-3 loss at home to Madawaska last Tuesday.
The FF girls are 1-4-1 after they tied Southern Aroostook Friday, 4-4.
